Physiotherapy - Concussion
A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) caused by a rapid acceleration or deceleration of the brain within the skull. For example, this can happen after a blow to the head, from coming to a rapid stop (like in a car accident), or going through a rapid jarring movement of the head or neck (like after a fall). Concussions can result in a variety of prolonged symptoms including but not limited to: headaches, dizziness, nausea, visual issues, emotional changes, brain fogginess, and sleep disturbance. Most concussions will resolve within the first 7-10 days after injury, however symptoms may last longer than this period. Concussion rehabilitation focuses on the assessment and management of the patient’s unique symptoms with the goal of safely and gradually returning to previous levels of day-to-day function.
Physiotherapy - Vestibular
Vestibular rehabilitation (or dizziness rehabilitation) refers to the diagnosis and treatment of concerns related to dizziness, vertigo and balance. Vertigo and dizziness are often due to a dysfunction of the vestibular system, found in the inner ear, that sends signals to the brain in regards to your position in space. Our therapists have received advanced training and use specialized equipment to complete a comprehensive assessment to determine the cause of these symptoms. Depending on the cause, your physiotherapist may work with a variety of specialized exercises (balance, visual, cervical), repositioning maneuvers, and other management strategies. For a vestibular assessment, please plan on being here for around 90 minutes. Lengths of follow up will be based on your needs and determined by your therapist.
